2023 USA Climbing Youth National Championships – Wrap Up

In a thrilling display of talent and determination, the 2023 USA Climbing Youth National Championships came to a triumphant close last month. Held at The Front – South Main, The Front – Salt Lake, and the US National Training Center in the heart of Salt Lake City, Utah, the event brought together the nation’s most promising young climbers to showcase their skills and compete for the coveted national titles.

From July 9th to July 16th, youth climbers showcased their prowess across three disciplines: Lead Climbing, Bouldering, and Speed Climbing. The stakes were high as these young athletes vied for a chance to make their mark on the national stage and potentially earn a spot on the U.S. Youth National Team.

In the Speed Climbing category, the excitement peaked as the young athletes raced against the clock. The cheers from the crowd were thunderous as records were broken in the Male and Female Youth A category as well as the Male Junior Category.

Lead Climbing witnessed awe-inspiring displays of athleticism as climbers worked through qualifying rounds at The Front Climbing Club in Downtown Salt Lake City. The athletes who found themselves in the final rounds of lead climbing competition had the opportunity to compete on the newly constructed, 50ft tall lead wall just outside of the U.S. National Training Center. The climbers were met with warm temperatures and huge cheers from the crowd below.

Bouldering proved to be equally captivating, as all round of competition were held inside the Training Center on the very same walls used during the Salt Lake City Boulder World Cup events. The dynamic nature of the discipline kept spectators on the edge of their seats, as each competitor attempted to unlock the problems and move on to the finals round.

As the 2023 USA Climbing Youth National Championships concluded, the climbing world got their first look at the 2023 Youth National Team. These young athletes, with their tenacity and skill will have the opportunity to travel to compete in the Youth World Championships in Seoul, South Korea later this month.

The event’s success is a testament to the dedication of the athletes, coaches, parents, routesetters, volunteers, and the entire climbing community. Their unwavering support and commitment to the sport continue to nurture and inspire the next generation of climbers.
