USA Wins 2 Medals and 2 Series Titles at World Cup Seoul 2024

This past weekend, 14 climbers represented Team USA in Seoul, Korea for the IFSC Climbing World Cup. It was the final World Cup of the season, with podiums and overall series titles on the line for Boulder, Lead, and Speed.

Sanders Wins Boulder Gold and Lead Bronze

Annie Sanders won her first Boulder World Cup gold medal in Seoul, wrapping up an impressive first full senior season on the international circuit.

Speaking after the win, Sanders told the IFSC, “I’m definitely still in shock right now. I wasn’t expecting this. After the second boulder I almost kind of gave up hope as a lot of people were topping that one so I was just trying to have fun for the rest of the round, and it paid off.”

Following her Boulder gold, Sanders backed it up with a bronze medal in Lead. That makes Sanders one of only three climbers to win two World Cup medals at the same event.

Grossman Wins Boulder Series Title

Despite missing out on a medal in Seoul, Natalia Grossman won the 2024 Boulder World Cup Series title for the fourth time – becoming the fourth woman to do so, but the first to win four in a row.

Grossman won two World Cup golds during the Series, one in Salt Lake City, Utah and one in Prague, Czechia.

Watson Wins Speed Series Title

Olympic bronze medallist Sam Watson left the final round after an unfortunate false start, but still accrued enough points this season to secure the 2024 Speed World Cup Series title. That makes him the first American male to win a Series title.

Watson won gold at his home World Cup in Salt Lake City, Utah and also in Chamonix, France on his way to the title.

Also representing Team USA in Seoul were Charles Barron (Men’s Boulder), Noah Bratschi (Men’s Speed), Sophia Curcio (Women’s Speed), Zach Hammer (Men’s Speed), Michael Hom (Men’s Speed), Ben Jennings (Men’s Speed) Piper Kelly (Women’s Speed), Isis Rothfork (Women’s Speed), Nathan Sato (Men’s Lead), and Adam Shahar (Men’s Boulder).
