USA Climbing invites applications for Assistant, Apprentice, and Intern Coach positions for the upcoming IFSC Youth World Championships in Guiyang, China (August 22-31, 2024). This prestigious event demands a coaching team with a diverse skill set to provide comprehensive support to our athletes across all disciplines. We will build a collaborative coaching team with a diverse skill set who together can best support our athletes in all aspects of competition.

Coaches will serve as ambassadors of USA Climbing and model and uphold Core Values and Code of Conduct while fostering a culture where every member of our youth team feels included, supported, and integral to our success.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Hold a current USAC L2 Coach Certification, maintained in good standing since 2021.
• Possess national-level competition coaching experience, including Yeti Nationals, Paraclimbing Nationals, Youth Nationals, Collegiate Nationals, or National Team Trials.
• Hold a valid passport expiring no earlier than March 1, 2025, and be eligible to obtain a Visa for travel to China.

Specific qualifications for each coaching role:

Assistant Coach: Minimum 8 years of professional climbing coaching experience, with preference given to those who have held Head Coaching positions and who have experience coaching at international events.
Apprentice Coach: Minimum 5 years of professional climbing coaching experience.
Intern Coach: Minimum 3 years of professional climbing coaching experience.

Evaluation Criteria: 

Candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Professionalism and adherence to ethical standards: Ability to act as an ambassador for USAC with other federations and the IFSC by representing the organization with integrity, respect, and professionalism in all communications and interactions.
• Extensive coaching experience, particularly in high-level competition events.
• Involvement with USA Climbing or other professional climbing organizations.
• Demonstrated understanding of IFSC rules and competition structure.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team coaching environment, including with potentially new colleagues.
• Proficiency in supporting athletes throughout all stages of competition, including preparation, warm-up, competition itself, appeals process, and debriefing.

Application Process:

Applications must be submitted by Sunday, June 9th at 11:59pm MT. The selection process involves:

• Review by a panel consisting of Head Coach Meghan McDonald, VP of Sport John Muse, Education Manager Rebecca Ingraham, Team Manager Kim Mitchell, and additional members of the Coaching Committee. Each application will undergo evaluation using a standardized rubric to ensure fairness and impartiality.
• Interviews for finalists will be conducted by June 28th.
• Selected coaches and an alternate will be notified by July 5th.
• All applicants will receive notification by July 9th.
